Personal Archive Mining: January 17th, 2009.

Here are some photos from a round of Sprintcar racing at Speedway City, which I went to one night with my friend Dean, who's now living in Dubai. Stuck behind tall fences I couldn't really get any good photos of the actual racing, but there was some nice golden light as the sun went down, and colors in the sky at dusk which looked rather cool in combination with the lights on the track.

Sprintcar racing is a bit more interactive than a lot of motorsports. Racing on mud and clay while sliding sideways around the oval, the huge tyres flick up chunks of dirt up and over the fence quite regularly. So while you're watching them race, you also have to keep an eye out for incoming clumps of dirt as they go past.

Personal Archive Mining: March 19th, 2008.

March 19th was a rather truck-oriented day for photos, starting out at the Wingfield BP truck stop. There are always some interesting trucks parked or moving in and out of the facility. 

So here are some photos of the trucks I saw that afternoon. All photos taken with a Nikon D70s and Nikkor 85mm f/1.4D lens.

After taking photos of a few interesting rigs at the truck stop, I headed up Port Wakefield Road for a little while, and took a few more photos of a lone trailer and abandoned building by the side of the highway. The light was fairly flat and boring for landscape tyre shots, so I've done some high contrast black and white conversions on these photos.

I then went for a bit more of a drive along some of the random dirt roads around the nearby farm paddocks and fields.
